Patient Safety

Below is information on staying safe during your hospital stay:

Leaving the Unit

Please check with your physician or nurse to determine if you have walking privileges. An escort may be necessary even if you do have walking privileges. Please notify your nurse upon leaving and returning to the unit. It is important to stay in your room until your doctor has made rounds and treatments have been completed.

During the Night

Please stay in bed after you have been prepared for the night. Strange surroundings and sleep medications may create a hazard if you get out of bed. For assistance during the night, use your nurse call button.

Security

Summerlin Hospital has security guards on duty 24 hours a day. In the event you need the assistance of security, dial 0 for the hospital operator.

Smoke-Free Environment

Smoking and/or the use of any tobacco products is not permitted anywhere in the hospital or on hospital grounds, including parking lots and privately owned vehicles. This policy applies to patients, visitors, vendors, employees, physicians, and anyone else on the Summerlin Hospital Medical Center campus. All patients will be notified of the tobacco-free policy prior to admission. Smoking cessation counseling may be provided anytime during patients’ hospital stay.

Fire Drills

For your protection, the hospital conducts fire and disaster drills regularly. If a drill occurs while you are here, please remain in your room and do not become alarmed. Hospital staff is trained in fire safety and emergency management.

Medications

Every medication that you receive while at Summerlin Hospital has been prescribed by your physician, dispensed by the hospital pharmacy and administered by a trained professional. Patients are not permitted to administer their own medications or to keep personal medications, unless specifically documented by their physician.

Personal Items

Patients are asked not to bring items of value with them to the hospital. These items should be returned home with a family member. Summerlin Hospital is not responsible for lost medications or valuables (including glasses or dentures). If you choose to keep your valuables here, an inventory will be taken and your items will be kept in a safe with the Security Department. If you believe an item of yours to be missing, notify your nurse who will contact security.
