Unit Overview
Surgery can be an intimidating time for patients. That's why nurses at Summerlin Hospital Medical Center are proud to provide high-quality care to patients, and place their primary focus on the patient and family experience.
We hire compassionate nurses who want to contribute to the success of making Summerlin Hospital a world-class destination for surgical care. Nurses can expect to work collaboratively with other disciplines such as physicians, residents, NPs, admitting, physical therapy and floor unit staff on the progression of patients in their post-op process.
Pre-operative Holding Area

Nurses in the pre-operative holding area use patient and family-centered care to create the best possible surgical experience. The nurses incorporate the core concepts of respect and dignity, information sharing, participation and collaboration while they make sure patients are safely prepared in a timely manner for their procedure. The care they provide is evidence- based, and are best practices to help ensure the best possible outcomes.
Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
22 beds
Responsible for recovering post-op adult patients. The group of nurses enjoys working as part of a cohesive team in a fast-paced nursing environment with a wide variety of post-op patients. PACU, ICU or two years medical/surgical experience preferred. Positive attitudes and direct communication are the unit standard. Excellent communication skills, critical thinking skills and ability to work independently needed.
Pediatric Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PPACU)
8 beds
The unit helps ambulatory surgical pediatric patients recover and discharge. Same day admit and in-house pediatric surgical patients are also cared for here. Nurses have an opportunity to work in a patient and family centered pediatric surgery center with inpatients and outpatients. Pediatric experience required. PACU, PICU and/or critical care experience preferred. There is a variety of level of acuity and age ranges, from infants to teens.
Operating Room
12 rooms
The OR cares for a wide variety of patients. This close-knit family of RN Circulators and Certified Surgical Scrub technicians cover specialties that include orthopedics, general surgery, plastics and reconstructive surgery, urology, cardiac, neuro spine, vascular, GYN, ENT, and thoracic. There are two da Vinci robots that are used by urology, general and GYN. The OR staff cares for patients of all ages using a multidisciplinary approach. Staff members are expected to work in multiple specialties and education and training are greatly encouraged. As part of the Summerlin Children’s Medical Center, the pediatric team specializes in meeting the needs of the pediatric population. Call requirements are one weekend shift or Saturday work shift per month.
Pre-admission Testing Center (PAT)
The group of nurses in the PAT provide pre-admission testing, history and physicals, and pre-surgical screening with the goal of appropriate medical preparation and education for surgery or medical procedure. One-on-one interviews with the patient and family allow for teaching and personalized care of the individual.
