Department Overview

The Emergency Department at Summerlin Hospital Medical Center provides quality care for patients of all ages and conditions, ranging from delivering babies and resuscitating trauma arrests to removing foreign bodies or treating the common cold. The pace of the Emergency Department varies on any given day or hour, with an average of 130 daily visits. The emergency department is a 46-bed department that has a Certified Chest Pain Center, Certified Primary Stroke Center and Pediatric Emergency Department.

Triage

  • Registration kiosk to promote patient privacy
  • Quick triage process to expedite care (vital signs, ESI level)
  • Protocols initiated when needed

Rapid Medical Exam (RME) / Fast Track

  • Recliner chairs to keep patient upright while waiting for treatment/testing
  • Dedicated RNs and technicians in this area to increase turnaround times

Main ED

  • Four trauma bays
  • Desk computers and WOWs (workstation on wheels) for charting
  • Lab and CT located in main ED
  • POC testing done by lab and respiratory
  • Use of up-to-date technology for safe and effective care:
    • Smart pumps
    • Cerner EMR
    • Bar code technology for medication administration
    • Advanced cardiac monitoring system
    • Cooling system for hypothermia care
    • Comfort care for patients-well stocked pantry and warmed cleansing wipes

Psychiatric Emergency Center

  • Six beds
  • Dedicated staff familiar with psychiatric care and legal paperwork
  • Care provided is least restrictive
  • 24/7 RN and tech
  • Located adjacent to main ED for easy access in emergency situations

Pediatric Emergency Department

  • Eight bed pediatric unit
